UV Window Film in Los Angeles, California

Many of our residential case studies are about how we install window film to windows throughout homes to help reduce heat, reduce glare, protect against sun fading, or increase privacy. While this case study is about an installation we did at a residence to help with ultraviolet rays, it’s a little different than our past case studies. Solar Art installed UV window film in a wine cellar at a home in Los Angeles, California, to protect the bottles from sun fading. Keep on reading to learn more about this project!

Solar Art's Goals

Solar Art’s goals for this installation were to meet with the customer, learn more about the project and what they were looking for, and help them find a window film solution. To do this, our sales representative out of our Los Angeles office met with the customer at the home to take a look at the glass in question. While onsite, the customer took our sales representative to the wine cellar and explained that this is the area they are needing window film for. Sun shines through the glass windows and into the wine cellar, which is a problem. The customer has expensive wine bottles, and the labels are getting sun-faded. With that being said, the homeowner was looking for a UV window film that would protect their wine labels from the sun.

Solar Art's Suggestions

After meeting with the homeowner and learning about what they are looking for and what their goals for this project are, our sales representative was ready to make a few suggestions he felt would be a good fit for this project. The homeowner explained that they are looking for a window film that would block ultraviolet rays without changing the look of the wine cellar glass. After hearing this, our sales representative thought of a few window films, the 3M Prestige line being one of them. He suggested a 3M Prestige window film because it will block 99% of UVA and UVB rays and isn’t going to drastically change the look of the wine cellar glass.

What the Customer Chose

Once the customer met with our sales representative, heard his suggestions, and learned about all of the different options available, she was ready to make a decision. The homeowner decided to take our sales representative’s suggestion and move forward with 3M Prestige 70. This UV window film blocks 50% of heat, 23% of glare, and 99.9% of ultraviolet rays. These UV rays are the biggest component of sun fading. While this UV window film won’t completely stop sun fading from happening, it will extend the lifespan of the valuable labels on the wine bottles.

Results of the Window Film Installation

Overall, this installation ended up being 254 square feet of UV window film and took two of our expert installers 3.5 hours to complete. The Solar Art team was happy with how this installation turned out. We were able to successfully help the homeowner find a window film solution that would protect their wine bottle labels in their wine cellar from sun fading. In addition to UV window film and solar film, Solar Art also services decorative window film, window security film, anti-graffiti film, window graphics, and wall graphics.
