One of the most common problems Solar Art’s customers face is a lack of privacy in the office space. Office buildings often are built with a lot of glass in the private offices and conference rooms, which is great for natural light and keeping an open and airy space. However, sometimes having too much glass in an office can create a problem. Anyone walking by can see straight through the glass, which creates a lack of privacy, especially in conference rooms. Oftentimes, conference rooms are where important meetings are held and there can be confidential or sensitive information displayed. We get business owners who call us every day to increase privacy in their conference rooms without completely covering the glass and entirely getting rid of natural light. This installation was no different. We installed 3M Dusted Crystal to an office in San Francisco, California for privacy purposes. Keep on reading to learn the details of the project!
Solar Art’s goals for this project were to help the business owner find a window film solution that would increase privacy throughout the office space without completely covering the glass or losing natural light coming in. To do this, our sales representative from our San Francisco office met the business owner at the building to take a look at the glass that was causing problems and see how we could best help the customer. When our sales representative met with the business owner, he learned that there was glass in the boardroom, lobby, conference rooms, private offices, and sidelights that were causing the customer issues. He explained that he was looking for a way to increase privacy in these spaces without completely covering the glass or losing the natural light that comes into these spaces.
After meeting with the business owner, learning the specific details of the project, and hearing what he was looking for exactly, he was ready to explain the different window films available and make some suggestions. Since the business owner was interested in increasing privacy, our sales representative thought either a decorative window film or custom graphics would be the best fit. Our sales representative explained that when it comes to decorative window film we could install it in bands as opposed to full coverage to keep some of that natural light from coming in. Since we have an in-house graphics department, we could also use a decorative window film and create a more custom look.
After speaking with our sales representative, the customer decided that he liked the idea of going the custom graphics route. From there, we worked with the customer to choose the window film to create the custom graphics out of and come up with the design. The window film used in this installation was 3M Dusted Crystal, which is a type of decorative window film. This was the window film chosen because it will increase privacy and is an easy product for our graphics department to work with to create the custom graphics. The customer decided that they wanted to do a larger band of 3M Dusted Crystal at eye level to increase privacy, and then three smaller bands above and below the large band to add that custom look and design.
This 3M Dusted Crystal installation ended up being 49 panes and 882 square feet of installation. It took a team of two installers four days to complete. Overall, Solar Art felt this project was a success. By installing 3M Dusted Crystal, we were able to help the business owner find a window film solution that increased privacy, added a custom design, didn’t fully cover the glass, and still allow natural light into the space. Now, people walking by the conference rooms aren’t going to be able to see what is being displayed or discussed.
