In restaurants, windows help to create a pleasant dining experience by letting in natural light and, if you’re in a scenic area, beautiful views. The natural light can save restaurants money on interior lighting.
While windows are great, they do have a few downsides. For one, while the sun’s light brightens up a restaurant, that light quickly translates into heat. This heat builds through the day. Restaurants already get warm due to lots of people in a small space and, with a kitchen in the back, this means that the AC is running all the time.
Windows also let in the sun’s UVA and UVB rays which wreck havoc on furniture, decor, and artwork through permanent sun fading. While big windows can be a focal point of a space, they also let the world see inside, and many customers would prefer to dine in privacy.
A final stipulation is the most uncomfortable: sun glare. When the sun is facing the windows the sun is shining directly on customers’ faces and reflecting off of hard floors. When the sun’s overhead, its light reflects off of buildings, cars, or water which brings blinding light into the restaurant. Reflected sunlight can at best be uncomfortable and at worst be painful and dangerous.
Blinds and curtains are the simplest solution to the problems mentioned above, as they can be opened and closed through the day. On the other hand, solar film by Solar Art can solve the root of the problem, by blocking 99% of the sun’s UVA and UVB rays and up to 63% of the sun’s light. This means cooler interiors, no sun glare, and reduced sun-fading. Solar Art also offers tinted and decorative window films with the same sun-blocking perks but with added privacy, as well. Solar Art’s solar film is an affordable and low-maintenance way to help your customers dine in comfort while saving you money on cooling costs at the same time!
