How to get rid of a Headache

How-to-get-rid-of-a-headache

Migraine relief. Unfortunately, I’m sure there are a lot of you out there that have to deal with migraines 🙃 My entire family gets really bad migraines and I somehow am fortunate enough to not get them. I have seen what they are like and they can be completely debilitating. If I have even the slightest headache it’s so hard for me to do anything, so I really empathize with you guys who suffer from migraines. If a migraine does strike, what do you do? When it comes to migraines I have seen a few things that work well for my family. While I don’t get migraines, I do have a few things that work for me if I feel a headache coming on, and I wanted to share them with you so you can try them if you are ever in that situation!

Dim lights in the room you are in

Up first on the list we have dim lights. I personally don’t think there is anything worse than bright, blinding lights when you have a migraine. It can make opening your eyes extremely difficult and painful. Not to mention, it can make a migraine worse. If you feel a migraine coming on, try and dim the lights in whatever room you are in. If you are at home, obviously the darker the better. However, if you are at work, make the lights as dim as possible while still being able to get work done. If you have blinds or shades, try closing them to stop the natural light from beaming in.

Try and reduce stress levels

Stress plays a huge part in migraines and it’s something we unfortunately deal with probably more than we should. If you feel a headache or a migraine coming on or you already have one, try your best to minimize your stress as much as possible. Try and take a step back and look at the bigger picture. You will get through whatever it is that’s stressing you out and it’s not worth compromising your health over. Try taking a walk outside or do something that can help get your mind off the stressful situation.

Install window film to reduce heat & reduce glare

Believe it or not, window film is actually a great way to help prevent a migraine from coming on. Window film can help reduce both heat and glare from entering a space. In fact, solar film can reduce up to 63% of heat and 62% of glare. This is going to make a noticeable difference in the room. I don’t know about you, but if I have a headache being in a hot room is the absolute worst. It’s stuffy, it's hard to breathe and it just doesn’t help with anything. Solar film can help mediate this for a very affordable price. In fact, you will save money because you won’t have to lower the air conditioning to get the room to a comfortable temperature.

But what’s worse than heat? Glare. Both at home and in the office glare is an absolute nightmare when you have a headache. Glare reflects off of TV screens and computer screens giving off a blinding light that hits you right in the eyes. Installing solar film to windows in your home and office is an easy and affordable way to help prevent a potential migraine from coming on.

Increase caffeine intake

Caffeine has also been known to help with both migraines and headaches. Did you know that most pain relievers contain caffeine and it can help almost 40% more effective? I didn't know this, but I honestly wasn’t surprised. I know at least for me, one of the best remedies for a headache is a big cup of coffee. This is an easy one to implement because regardless of whether you are at work or at home, you can easily sip on coffee while still getting things done.

Relax & rest

Finally, we have relaxing and resting. I saved the most important for last. Like I said earlier, stress plays a big part in headaches and migraines. If you already have a migraine or you feel one coming on, try and clear the rest of your day so you can rest up and be ready to go for the next day. Your health is obviously really important, so make time to take care of yourself to rest and relax.
