Decorative Window Film For Homes & Commercial Buildings

Hi everyone, I'm Jeff! I'm part of the sales team here at Solar Art. I'm based in our Orange County/San Diego office. I'm also part of the large commercial team, which is focusing on projects throughout the United States. I am here to talk to you today about why our customers love decorative window film for their homes and commercial buildings!

What decorative window film options are there?

When it comes to decorative window film, the possibilities are endless. I explain to people that there's the standard frosted window film, which is just a plain banded frost, and then we have different levels of opacity, different patterns, different designs, etc. We can do whatever we want with decorative window film, which is a neat thing. At Solar Art, we get requests for full coverage frosted window film and decorative window film for mother’s rooms and conference rooms in offices.

We can also install full-coverage decorative window film on the glass, or we can also turn it sideways, vertical, or really whatever the customer wants. When it comes to decorative window film, you can also choose a gradient window film. Gradient window film starts as very opaque or very private at the bottom and fades or dissipates into clear at the top. This option offers privacy at the bottom, but still allows people to kind of see out and have some visibility and not feel like they're boxed into a room.

Which decorative window film is the most popular?

The most popular decorative window film is the frosted window film that we talked about earlier. That's what a lot of people are looking for when they are searching for a decorative window film. You have a lot of flexibility with frosted window film in the sense that you can do full coverage, bands, stripes, etc, which customers like.

Can you customize the look of frosted window film?

Solar Art frequently gets asked if we can customize the look of frosted window film, and the answer is yes. A lot of our customers choose to do different lines or breaks in the frosted window film.

We can also cut things out of the frosted window film. For example, we frequently cut logos, room names, specific office names, and position titles out of the frosted window film. This is easy for offices because they can brand and label their rooms and they don’t have to worry about it being permanent. If the tenant or office space changes, we can easily remove the frosted window film and replace it with correct verbiage.

What kinds of customers install decorative window film the most?

Like we just talked about how we do a lot of decorative film installations in interior offices, so business owners and managers are probably the most common type of customer that requests decorative window film. Interior offices are typically looking for decorative window film in conference rooms since there is a lot of glass, no privacy, and people feel like they are in a fishbowl.

We mentioned earlier mother’s rooms in offices. Decorative window film is a great way to increase privacy and give mother’s a place to get away from everyone. A lot of dentists also request decorative window film because they want to put a perforated window film or storefront graphics as a marketing tool. We also do a lot of decorative window film installations at coffee shops for similar reasons.

Can you put decorative window film on textured glass?

Putting decorative window film on textured glass is a frequently asked question here at Solar Art. We don’t suggest putting decorative film or any window film for that matter on textured glass because it can take away from the integrity of the install and compromises the warranty. Typically the other side of the glass will be a smoother surface where we can install window film.

Can you layer decorative window film for maximum increased privacy?

Another frequently asked question is whether or not you can double decorative window film for maximum increased privacy. Again, we don’t suggest double layering decorative window film for maximum privacy for the same reasons as installing on textured glass. What's going to It’s going to void warranties by the manufacturers and could just take away from the integrity of the install. Oftentimes when people do want that maximum privacy, we'll install one layer of window film on one side and one layer of window film on the other side of the glass and it'll achieve the same purpose.

Is decorative window film installed on the interior or the exterior?

Oftentimes, decorative window film is installed on the interior glass. The other side, which is usually a hallway, has a lot more traffic with people touching and messing with the window film, which is why we usually see people wanting to install on the inside of the office.
