Nick Barbu, an Operations Associate at Solar Art, brings a wealth of experience and dedication to our team. With a background in installing window film dating back to 2014, Nick joined the Solar Art family in May 2023, following the acquisition of New York Window Film. His commitment to the company is evident, and he has quickly become an integral part of our operations in New York.
What is your favorite thing about working for Solar Art?
One of the standout aspects of Nick's experience at Solar Art is his appreciation for the people he works with. He describes his colleagues as not only talented but he states that “My favorite part of working at Solar Art, hands down, it’s the people. I have some amazing co-workers. The installers are masters in their craft, Ops staff in Farmingdale work together to keep the jobs moving.”
How do you balance your personal and professional life at Solar Art?
Outside of his professional life, Nick is a devoted fan of the New York Islanders, and he's actively involved in the Blue and Orange Army Fan group. His personal life is enriched by his role as a father to two daughters, aged 5 and 7, both of whom are currently in elementary school. Of note is his youngest daughter's journey as a Pediatric Cancer Survivor, having battled and conquered Neuroblastoma at just 10 weeks old. Nick’s resilience and unwavering support from his wife, Laura, have ignited his passion for volunteering and community involvement.
What is your favorite perk at Solar Art?
Nick is not only a dedicated professional but also a licensed Ham Radio operator recognized by the FCC. He serves as a member of the Huntington Civil Defense, where he plays a critical role in ensuring effective communication during emergencies, including situations involving power and infrastructure failures. His favorite perk at Solar Art is "People Helping People", where staff get a paid day off to help others in need.
Nick firmly believes in leaving a positive impact and aiding those in need. In his spare time, he dedicates himself to volunteering with the local Fire Department. This is a role he's well-versed in, as he spent a decade as a Firefighter and Paramedic before starting a family and embarking on a new career. His impressive track record in the field includes two deployments as a Paramedic with the Suffolk County Urban Search and Rescue Team during Hurricane Irene and Hurricane Sandy. He's received honors from the Suffolk County Legislature for exemplary service, an NYS Assembly certificate of merit, and the distinction of being named the ALS Provider of the Year for Suffolk County, NY in 2012.
During his college years, Nick served as Chief of EMS for three out of four years and was awarded the Franklin Pierce University Outstanding Service Award in April 2006, as well as the Franklin Pierce University VP Award for Excellence in Leadership in 2007-2008. His commitment to saving lives has resulted in 9 Prehospital Save Awards, reflecting his success in reviving individuals in cardiac arrest on nine separate occasions. He's also received a Life Save Award and a Unit citation for his efforts at a fatal house fire.
