How to Reduce Heat Inside the House

As the summer is approaching, homes tend to feel more like ovens than getaways. Seeing as we re a window film company, we help our customers with heat problems every single day. We've collected five ways you can make your home more comfortable through the summer:

1. Turn on the air conditioning

A common solution to reduce heat inside your home is to run the air conditioning. However, if you’re running the air conditioning from morning to evening to keep your house cool, your electricity bill is going to be through the roof. So then the question becomes, how do you reduce your air conditioning needs? Start with blocking the sun from getting through your windows with window treatments of various kinds. In the end, air conditioning really is the quickest way to bring down the heat in your home, so run it during the hottest part of the day for best results!

2. Install blinds and shades to your windows

Both interior and exterior blinds as well as curtains are a very common way to reduce heat in your home. While they will get the job done and reduce heat, they will suffer sun fading over time and also darken your rooms and block views. With that being said, blinds and shades are a great low cost and convenient way to reduce heat in your home.

3. Apply window coverings

Exterior window coverings like awnings are another way to block the sun and reduce heat. They deflect the sunlight from above while still allowing in light through the day. However, they must be extended and closed from the outside and they will experience more sun-fading than interior window coverings. Nonetheless, when combined with curtains and blinds, they are an effective heat barrier.

4. Install solar film to windows throughout your home

Installing window film is an efficient way to reduce heat, whether interior or exterior, without darkening rooms or sacrificing views. Solar films, such as those offered by Solar Art, block 99% of the sun’s invisible UVA/UVB rays and also reflect over 63% of the the sun’s heat and light before it ever enters your home. In fact, homes with solar films even improve their HVAC performance and could even qualify for rebates from local energy companies. They only improve the function, but don’t change the appearance, of your windows.

5. Install exterior window film

Just like interior window film, exterior window film will block 99% of the UVA and UVB rays and reflects over 75% of the sun's heat. Exterior window films are ideal when interior access to a window is difficult. In brief, Solar Art specializes in affordable window film installation which is key in reducing heat in your home or office. Combined with curtains, awnings, and your AC, window films can reduce your cooling costs and make your home more comfortable during the summer.
